I had Lasik done on friday afternoon. One of the best decisions I have ever made. Woke up this morning and could see perfect. This is so amazing, would highly recommend anyone who has been thinking about doing it, to do it.

 

How would you describe the surgery?

You're awake the whole time, correct?

 

I've heard the exact same thing from a friend a few years ago. And then, a couple years later, he had to wear glasses again. I don't get it, has that ever happened to anybody else?

 

How's your night vision? Losing night vision is the only complication that worries me. I would love to get lasik, but I have great night vision and don't want to compromise it due to my line of work.

 

it doesnt last forever, 10 yrs or so and you will need it again.(dont quote me on this tho)

 

I had Lasik done a few years ago, and it has been great. My eyes werent too bad to begin with, but they are 20/15 now. My night vision is the best part of it. When I had the surgery done, it was amazing at night. It was like lights were super bright, and everything was super clear. My brother has had it done too a few years before me (his eyes were worse), and he needs glasses now. The surgery is no big deal unless you get freaked out about what is going on. That stuff doesnt bother me, so I knew what to expect. They put a piece of metal over your eye that fits nicely, and is shaped just like your eye. There is a vacuum port on it, and it sucks righ to your eye. The only part that is sticking out is the area in front of the colored part of your eye. When it sucks to your eye, your eye isn't moving at all. They press down on your eye, and push the fluid out. That's the only scary part. When the fluid is out, you can't see at all. It is like you are going blind, because your eye is opened, and it is completely black. They then slice off the exposed area of your eye leaving a hinge (the top part of that area is still attached so they can put it back properly). Then they shape your eye with a laser. It will smell like burnt flesh. Then they glue down the area that they sliced off. It is very simple. There are many videos on youtube for it. It is not painful at all. I had LASIK in my one eye, and PRK in the other. The PRK is quicker, and they dont have to cut the front of your eye off. The problem with PRK is that your vision will go blurry a couple days later, and stay that way for a week or so. Basically the scarred area is healing and making it blurry, and when you do LASIK, the scarred area is sealed up by the flap. It really isn't as bad as it sounds.

 

In the end, it is not bad at all. The wait is what made me the most anxious. I was in my mind they are going to cut my eye with a razor. But, I got in and the Doc was awesome. Explained everything they were going to do and what the sensations would be. The whole team was awesome, contanstly communicating, and the Doc talking me through everything. The blackout when they make the cut is the only time you have not vision what soever, but the blackout only lasts 5 seconds. Durring the actuall treatment, all you hear is the clicks of the laser, which is not a visible light. All you do is look at a blinking light.

From the time I went into the room and was walking out was 5-6 minutes. It goes so fast. I couldn't belive it. I sat up and was able to read the clock across the room. And yes, you are completly awake for the procedure, the give you a 5mg Vallium to calm your nerves if you want it.

Night vision that night (surgery on friday at 4, went out at 7) was not bad. My eyes were a little sore (felt like a pice of sawdust or something was in my eye), more irritited than anything. There was a slight "halo" effect around lights that night, just becaue the eye is still healing. The next night, it seemed normal with a slight starburst effect which they say will gradually dissipate after about a month. It is completely tolerabel.

All thing considered, would not hesitate to do it agin.
