Some Northern California Geology

I spent the weekend camping "in the field" in some of the mountains of Norther Cal. Near Mt. Lassen (an active volcano) Here are a few quick pics of some of the geological structures I looked at.
On the right of the picture you can see columnar jointing
And on the left you can see Pahoehoe Lava flows
Here is a better pic of the igneous columns. Geology Rocks!
Here is a pic of a dormant Cinder Cone; a type of volcano. The boulders at the base of it are as big as a man to give you size reference.
Ok class that ends today's lessen. Tomorrow we will address the effects of chemical weathering.

Wow I didnt realize the pics were so big until now. I used someone else's camera with my SD card. To be nice I didnt change any of his setting but dang those are big. I didnt have enough room on my SD card to fit anymore pics of the stuff I saw. Like some great tufa mounds and some great quarts lined schists.
