Well my DMH fell apart the other day... All the bolts/screws that hold the motor to the flange aparently fell out awhile back.... I noticed that it took forever to shut and open... That is because the damn motor was sitting there rotating and when the wire finally tangled/knoted up it would work... but i added 4 screws and all is well now...

how long have you owned it and did you notice if the gears are plastic or metal inside?

My DMH has been pretty stout. It started to rattle after about a year. Just a month ago I took some piano wire and made a spring for it so that it will apply pressure to it when closed. No problems now.
