Default Owned by GM - Battery

So the battery in my 2007 Silverado 1500 was dead when I got ready to leave for lunch I called the local GM dealer and told the service guy the info and mileage, etc and he then told me it would be covered, but not the labor. SWEET! I'll change it myself and have a new battery under warranty!

But no! When I got with the parts guys it is 3 years/36K miles My truck was a 2/15/07 production and has 63xxx miles. OWNED!

Now the worst part, is that GM switched away from the old stand-by group 78 battery. They could have gone group 34, and had the top post like these switched to, and has the same foot-print as the group 78...but no. Now it's a 48H6, blah. That thing is HIGH DOLLAR! Most places want $150+core or more for that thing with any decent CCA's and warranty.

Found one for $99.99 exchanged though, so not too much more than the group 78 would have been!

As long as you can find a battery to fit securely in the base, it doesn't matter what dimensions it is.

Find another group size with similar dimensions and go that direction. FYI O'reilly sells a 48-72 (2yr free, 6yr prorate) battery for ~$95 exchanged. 700CCA

48H6? Never heard of that one. Delco batteries quality went down hill years ago. 12 years ago, when I sold parts, we had twice as many come backs on delco's as Deka (Carquest and OReilly brand). The amount of 2-3 year old GM's coming in with them bad were crazy.

Yea, I used to be a store manager for Advance Auto....I just don't want to have to cut the heck out of these cables to convert to a group 78, which would fit fine, just to save $20. The Advance battery I got today is 700CCA and was $100 + core....not too bad I guess since most wanted $150+ for it. 48H6 is a new one for me too....I'd seen the top mount on there plenty of times and just assumed it was a group 34 (save as 78 but top post). The 48H6 is also OE in some "luxury" cars I am told like Mercedes and such.

Just a FYI I would stay away from Bosch batteries, I am on my 4 battery in 2 years. If they were not under warranty I would buy something else. Mine is a 770 CCA and only cost me 94.99. Price is okay just been having bad luck with them.

I'm still on my stock battery from GM. It's been through 2 montana winters and 2 arizona summers, and its still ticking. I'm probably pushing my luck with life on this thing but battery tests check out good...

Nice! I had no problems with the stock battery, until it stopped working

lucky for me I have connections with Kinetik and XS Power...new batteries are a phone call away.

Added a Kinetik HC1800 under the hood and just used their side post adapters, nice units.

My Wife's battery on her 2007 Z71 Tahoe did the same thing to us the other night, no warnings or low reading, just bam dead.

Just go pay for a Optima Red Top that comes with Side Post and Top Post on it and be done with it forever.

I have had them in service for over 11 years on some of my vehicles with no issues.

1 on my 2010 CCSB
1 on my 2009 Colorado
1 on my 2007 Tahoe
2 on my 1993 1 Ton

I sold a 1998 Durango last year that had one on it since it was a month old and the guy just told me it's still running strong.
