Oil Platform Explosion...What do you think?
Ok so by now everyone has heard about the oil platform explosion in the Gulf. No not the spill from months ago, this is NEW.

So after reading what you have read, what is your opinion on what happened? Accident or something more? Im not a conspiracy theorist or anything but this stuff is getting weird and I wanna know what you think.

I'm glad no one was killed.
I don't like to jump to conclusions before an official investigation, but I'd call it an accident. Nothing too weird about it. Hydrocarbons are combustible. That's why we like them. You start adding energy with pumps, compressors, heat, and reactions, and there are gonna be unexpected outcomes. Humans cannot make a perfect mechanical system that takes every variable into account...No matter how many checks there are.

I can't give the correct answer but I can give you my thoughts! I work in the oilfield along with most of my buddys. Like Forrest says " It happens" but in most cases it's lack of maintenance & experience! We the oilfield worker have the tools to stop this stuff from happening IMO! Platforms have down hole valve that will shut in wells & they have one switch shut downs that most rigs don't! I'm glad no one was killed like in the last one! The last one was a big fuckup & people died from lack of experience & trying to cut corners!

Accident, or equipment failure. I'd guess equipment failure. Most of the downtimes at work are due to an equipment failure. And a lot of the time the equipment fails due to lack of maintenance. I don't work offshore, but am pretty sure Mgmt is the same onshore or off. But it could've been a seal failing, and put hc's to the world. That kind of **** can happen at anytime, between rounds.
