Default An observation about gas stations..

Down here in Alabama, close to the gulf, a lot of our gas stations have their gas tanks above ground. I just noticed this a few weeks ago but everyone of them has only two tanks, yet the sell 3 grades of fuel. We looked at the tanks and they are in no way connected to each other.. I dunno if you guys knew if they mixed it someway or what.. Just thought it was kinda weird that there was 3 blends of fuel but only 2 tanks to hold it.. Any Ideas?

The tanks might be partitioned inside....one for low-octane, and one split for med and high octane since they probably sell less of it.

Maybe the other ones are underground. If the ones underground went bad, it might have cost too much to dig them up so they replaced them with above ground ones???? Just a guess.

most down south are underground because the water table is very high and some spots are below sea level new orleans is a good example of a city that is slowly sinking into the ocean. Ive heard they mix for the mid grade I would think the piping for that is actually in each filling station.

This is true, It's mixed at the pump. Also if you find a station tha is out of regular, Fill up with the middle grade and get super for the price of the middle grade. I built a few convinent stores and gas stations. Done it a few times.

You also have to watch for the disreputable independants as well, One in my area is known for putting regular grade in all three of his tanks....
