I just picked up a new Netbook for school/play. I love this thing! It's a Toshiba NB505.
It's small, light, whisper quiet, and does not get hot. The exact opposite of my regular laptop (17" HP, it's HUGE). This thing is great for sitting around in the living room or having something really portable to bring with you on the go. Also the battery life is great, 7+ hours easily, and that's even with using wifi the whole time.
So if anyone is thinking about getting something portable, check these things out. At $250-300, they sure beat the **** out of the iPad and similar devices.
BTW, this thing would be perfect for guys wanting to have something in their truck for tuning.

Meh, not the best comparison, but close. When only using one or two applications, the performance is close to a low end laptop. It's only when you've got multiple applications open that you really start to notice it struggling, but that might be because it only comes with 1GB of RAM. I'll try and post again about the speed after I upgrade the RAM to 2GB.
It's a 10.1" screen, 1.66 GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of ram, and 250GB hard drive. So it's not a bad machine for basic functions like web browsing, or taking notes, or similar activities.
