Default need some truck advise...

ADVICE...lol whoops...

as some of you may have remember, I started to build my 2000 silvy back in march with a turbo'd 4.8 along with a t56 swap...well after having problems with the stock crank on the 4.8 being too long and not working I had decided to bring my 6.0 block to the machine shop to be put together...

seeing I bought a new truck for a daily driver I told the machine shop to take their time with it seeing I was in no rush...the block is punched out and the 317 heads are all set to go, just needs the rotating assy...here is where the problem comes in...

if I go ahead and put in the 408 I still have to buy a new double disk clutch which is around $1200 bucks or so, beef up the trans for around $1600ish and of course the purchase of the engine which is at least $3k...

I already have the following

-ls7 clutch
-stock m12 GTO T56
-kbracing turbo kit
-gt4202r turbocharger
-60lb injectors

I also have lots of miscellaneous items that relates to my turbo build such as oil lines and fittings, gauges, etc...but Ive started to lose interest in the truck seeing I havnt driven it in so long and Im sick of spending money on it...

Ive now toyed with the idea of buying a stock crank from an auto 4.8 or any gen 3 and just throw it into my 4.8 and put the 317s on it...reason why Im thinking of this is I just have to a fraction of the money to get the truck going and I can enjoy it until I save to rest of the money for the rest of the build...

soo my question to you all is, is this a dumb idea? Im just nervous that if Im going to run out of $ and patience and just ditch the whole project...I would imagine that with me putting the 4.8 together it would maybe be a total $1k to get the truck going vs. at the least $6k

let me know your opinions...

I think you should either run the 4.8 or sell some stuff and buy a 5.3L. I think with all things considered(especially price) you can have a solid daily driver that runs 12s for pretty damn cheap.

I agree...I should have mentioned that as well...you can find a complete running 5.3L for dirt cheap...so it might be even cheaper to buy a compete engine, put an ls6 cam and springs in it and just drop it in...

exactly man. That's exactly what I plan to do with my truck. Heck if this one blows I may just buy another 5.3L. You can buy 4 5.3 engines for the price of a 6.0.

That's also not to mention that a 5.3,ls6, t70, etc is good for low low 12s with only about 8-10 psi.

Get it running, you'll need something to tinker with once you get bored with it

what about 4.8 flat top pistons with the 5.3 crank and throw on the 317's..
don't loose as much compression but still get the bigger combustion chamber
would that help a bit??

well ended up getting the 5.3 last night...the IAC was busted on the throttle body and the MAP sensor was loose too so I ended up getting it for $350 and he gave me a nice little stand too...

now Im just gonna put that cam in it, replace the intake mani and throttle body with the one from my 4.8, but the 60# injectors in and let'er rip...
