need helpful input with tail light issue
#1
ok heres the problem. i blacked out my tail lights and keep geting the run around by every cop that pulls me over for various reasons, one says theyre fine, other says too dark, other says im not supposed to have anything other than stock, completely different story every time but they all just give warnings so its not a issue with tickets YET, its just geting really old geting pulled over for stupid stuff!!! so,
heres the only two options i can think of, cause i refuse to go back to ugly stock red tails on my yellow truck, the black looks so much better.
option 1. get LED bulbss and HOPE they are bright enough to keep the cops from harrassing.
option 2. get the black aftermarket ones http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-04...Q5fAccessories and do just two light coats so the light comes through easier but are still nice and dark looking.
any opions on either idea or can yall think of another way? i'm not gona sand what i have because i caught hell trying to get these how i wanted them and now they are and the cops are busting my *****

I don't have any pics handy, but I painted my tails the body color...black. Great look, and ticket magnet (discounting safety). So, I took some sandpaper and sanded just the brakelight (top portion) and it looks pretty good. Still painted on the sides, the signals and reverse lights, but brakes are clear as day. No more tickets.

I am going to do my lights this way, if it is what I am thinking you have.. As for the lights.. If you alter a stock part, in any way that is lines for a fine.. You could possibly get away with a tiny reflector in between your gate and bumper.. They can use all kinda bs to give you a ticket.. I had one tell me if i was to get rear ended that the driver could use the blacked out lights being the issue, didn't see i had my brakes on, which day or night they were clear as day, just didn't shine totally red when the brakes were off in the day time..

^ yeah ive been lectured about em twice now by cops. I have AVS covers on, so I can just hop out of the truck and pop em off and say DEAL WITH IT and drive off lol
i think theres plenty of light that gets through, and theres no issue whatsoever seeing the brakes from behind, especially since theres a third brake light...
as for you bandit, I'd just do what you have, or get something that you can easily reverse if you really needed to, because if anything theyll give you a 'fix it ticket'

I used to have the ones you could remove, but lost one. I liked them pretty good, but decided to paint mine. You have to check the law in your state to be certain. NY state doesn't allow much. You need to see your parking lights at 1000 feet, and see your brake lights at 500 feet. I was also debating to make an led bulb that was a lot brighter to shine through, but have too many projects on the list.

just check your local laws regarding distances you have to see the light & reflectors at. so long as you can prove you're within tolerances, you'll be fine. LED bulbs will help
