From past experience (parts sales for a Sea-Doo/Yamaha PWC dealership), I would stay away from 2 strokes. Maintenance and repairs are expensive, parts are becoming obsolete, and most Repair Orders ended in a new engine or the customer trading it in.

Look into a newer 4 stroke. I am slowly getting ready to make a ski purchase as well and it will for sure be a 4 stroke.

I have a 2002 SeaDoo RXDI (951cc direct injected 2-stroke) with quite a few mods that would do 64 on gps when I had it set up for smooth water. Now it is set up for choppy water which scrubs some top speed but it is killer out of the hole now. Had to make the change when I moved from MS to FL where I ride more in teh Gulf/bay rather than rivers/bayous before. If you want a fast two stroke stick with the larger 3cylinder yamaha or you can get a carbed 951 seadoo (such as that GSX limited mangler posted a link to). The 951 can be punched out to a 1040 and the late 90-early 2000 seadoo hulls are a lot more fun unless you are looking for all out straight line speed. If that's what you want, the GPR hulls are a good choice. However, like has already been mentioned, even a hopped up 2 stroke has a hard time keeping up with a newer FI 4-stroke. If I were to buy another one, it would likely be a SeaDoo RXPX. Do your research over on Green Hulk. There are some great guys over there with lots of experience and good information.
