Default iPods and whatnot

I'm kinda startin to want an iPod. Weekend radio sucks and thats all i really got to entertain myself at work is music or talkshows... A buddy of mine has one and has a dock station that plugs into the cigarette lighter and then plays through his radio. I plan on using this in my loader as well as my truck. I guess my question is...What do i need to look for? I don't want to spend a lot of money at all. How many gigs do i want? what features? Thanks guys

The one I bought my girlfriend I think was around 30 gigs (not the biggest or the smallest). It holds more songs than she needs at one time. I'm pretty certain it is definately over a 1000. I'm not really sure what all features they got now but I think they are all pretty similar unless you want one that does video. Make sure you get the warranty because many of them have had screen problems and without the warranty you are SOL...

For work you'll probably want a 4 gig ipod. I run loaders too and I did the same thing, 4 gigs is plenty of space to make a work mix and it's not gonna be cumbersome inside the machine. Get the FM docking station, I got the Transdock Micro from that OIC company that makes all the accessories for iPods. It's neat and clean, stays out the way and works flawlessly. Only thing that sucks is when your running a Komatsu and the coolant level is 1/4 inch below the sensor and the fill cap is locked... The damn buzzer plays over the radio when it's on.

I don't know what kinda company you work for but if your running a 988 you guys probably have a guy in a maintence truck, if you don't have a cig lighter I'm sure you could go to autozone and pick up a generic one. Toss the mechanic a ten spot or something and he might stick around for a few extra minutes and hook one up for you (that way if something happens YOUR not the one who installed it in their equipment). Just make sure he hooks it up 12v NOT 24v, some loaders run dual systems now.

Good luck, it makes playin with the big toys that much more fun when you have what you wanna listen to...

yeah we got service guys, but they're a bunch of lazy sombitches...they don't do anything to a machine unless its on a ******* work order...i operate at a road rock plant loading rock trucks. there is another loader that feeds the crusher(volvo L33 i think). He blew a seal out of one of the hydraulic cylinders the other day and had to wait 2.5 hours before somebody even cam to "diagnose" it...JUST ******* DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM!!! As far as i know its still down...Maintence around there is kind of a joke sometimes...but thats neither here nor there LOL rant over

earplugs are required in the machinery...and electronic devices are somewhat prohibited(i think)...the 988H however is extremely quiet inside so i don't usually where plugs, but having earphones in would attract a little too much attention...plus i have to be able to hear the CB and the company two way radios
