I've been doing some reading on street bikes, and ran across this OLD engine from Honda...
That is an engineer that likes valves.....

In 1992 Honda produced around 300 street versions of a 750cc model, the NR (often mistakenly referred to as the NR750), with a 90-degree V angle. Whereas the NR500 had used an oval piston with straight sides, the road going NR750 used an elliptical piston with curved long sides. The bike became the most expensive production bike at the time when it was selling for $50,000 and with the rarity, nowadays they rarely change hands.
The final 500cc race version was capable of developing approximately 130 bhp at over 20,000rpm.

looks cool, but how many shops are capable of machining an ellipse, especially one through a block? I'm sure a major company could afford it, but small shops...nah.
I wonder what benefits you would get out of oval pistons.

That's wild! 8 spark plugs and the pistons are separated at the top of the cylinder to what appeared like 16 dif sets of valves. i bet R&D was interesting on that. just too expensive for mainstream you think? 130bhp out of a 500 is damn impressive, i wonder why they dropped that program.

The engine was notorious for problems and 2-strokes were faster and lighter.... Plus the production bike cost 50,000 dollars....
I wonder if Wiseco offers pistions and rings for these... lol
The pistons would have to be very large. Maybe they only screwed up their boring machine and not their valve seat cutting machine....
