If you were to build a "bug out" truck...

What would YOU do? This is the idea I have right now... if I end up selling my truck I plan on picking up a Z71 and having at it. What's a bug out truck you ask? If there's a natural disaster or shtf scenario... or even zombies attack, its the vehicle you'd have that you'd bet your life on to not let you down.
So right now I'm kinda leaning towards building a rcsb Z71, maybe with one of those nice fiberglass bed caps that kinda make the trucks look almost Tahoe-like. I don't think i'd want to do anything over the top extreme with the drivetrain to maintain reliability, but it'd definately get a small lift for more ground clearance. I was also thinking about some of those nice boxed steel bumpers with a winch mounted inside and room for additional off road lights, plus maybe some lights on top of the bed cap on all 4 corners for side and rear lighting if needed. Obviously the electrical system would need a good once over to make sure everything gets enough power. Inside the bed i'd have some extra fuel cans and a box full of tools that i'd need, along with other gear that would make survival easier.
I'm still in thinking mode on this one, but I'd like to hear if any of you have some good ideas too. I'm not looking to build a rock crawler or anything, just something that I could convince the g/f I'm building for... "camping" lol.
Anyway, fire away...

My question for you is that if a natural disaster happens to be so bad that you cannot shelter in place somewhere safe do you believe that a vehicle is going to survive? If a SHTF situation happens a large vehicle is going to be a vehicle in the open and is going to be a prime target. IMHO the best bug out vehicles are ones that are highly mobile in all terrains, can manuever in tight areas and get to remote spots, use small amounts of fuel, and do not rely on to much technology. I would look into a good utv and build on it. You could even get custom bulletproof glass and panels outfitted on it for the hot zones. Plus they can be stored safely in a small reliable shelter. This might ease a little of the paranoia lol.
fuel consomption while moving though..thats a different story.
