I bought a bow off a dude...

Looking to eventually hunt maybe turkeys then deer, after some practice. Grew up in the sticks but never learned to hunt.

These days, I bought a bow and am looking for some tips and targets and advice in general. What do I want to learn to practice on and with?

It's a Browning set at 50lb pull.

Imo 50lb pull is awfully low.. But if it is comfy for you that is good.. What kind of set up you looking for??? Drop away rest, full containment style rest?? Have you decided on aluminum or carbon arrows?? Does it have sights on it?? Just curious.. What is your draw length?? All this will come into play when choosing arrows, heads?? BTW i have one for sale now if you know anybody looking..

if you have a local archery shop, run by there and have them do a quck tune up on it. basically just setting the knock point and rest center. they can give you beginners tips on shooting and sighting too. to start, dont spend too much money. my dad has a bad shoulder and kills a deer every year with a 15 year old bear whitetail 2 bow at 40lbs draw weight.

being around shooters will help the most. dont be afraid to ask questions. i used to shoot mens pro archery. when i turned 16 my hobby went from archery to trucks (go figure). now i mostly just bow hunt and bowfish, but i think i could still pull out the hunting bow and compete with the locals in a 3d competition. i have about 6 robin hooded arrows out in the garage to prove it.

Thanks for the advice guys.

But let's also focus on my questions...I can't shoot it yet because I don't have a target or practice tips yet.

So my question is, which target would you all buy, and which practice heads should I buy? Me getting started is on hold until I get at least a target.

You could also check out an archery range to practice at.

You need to tell us what length the arrow is, what make, model the arrow is.. Arrows are different. Some weight more( GPI) then others.. Measure from the nok throat, to the tip of the arrow.. As for a target, your going to spend 35 buks for a decent one that will allow you to retrieve your arrows from it with out wearing your self out pull them from it.. You want to look into a foam stacked target...

It came with a 30" aluminum arrow, so I bought three more 30" carbon arrows at walmart.
