Just my opinion, I honestly think it is a bad idea... I mean we won't see any of the benefits for it until 5 years from now and do you honestly think the oil companies are going to lower the cost of gas after they have gotten used to billions in profit??? IMO it will just ruin some of the last few natural recreational spots we have left... And if you think all those people in CO, WY, etc will allow oil drilling rigs everywhere you are just kinding your self.... For example: In CO cell phone coverage is sooo bad because they will not allow additional cell phone towers built because it ruins the skyline of the mountains....

Just like Bush said with the advancements in Technology the resources will not be damaged and no one can see the rig platform because its hunreds of miles off the coast. Furthermore I work at an Oil and Gas company and we have wells and pipeline in 23 states including WY and CO, the owner's don't mind the big fat checks they get every month and once a rig moves off the well it doesn't ubstruct your view everything is underground due to all they great advancements in the energy business.

But in 5 years we could import BILLIONS of barrels less a year and become FAR more economically dependent on foreign oil. Did you know CHina is going to be drilling just miles off the coast of Florida? And that they have the worst/shortest drilling history in the world and the US has the longest/best drilling history in the world. If its going to be drilled anyone might as well be us doing it, being safer at it and profiting from it. Also congress is in talks to revoke the tax exemptions the oil companies get and yes with more refineries and more domestic oil supply prices will go down if they dont then they will be in trouble with the government. More oil available domestically with more refining capability=lower gas prices. If gas doesnt go down or atleast stay the same the US economy will go into a full blown depression, something has to be done. Protecting our natural resources? You realize that the area they are proposing to drill in Alaska is less then one TENTH of ONE percent of the land in Alaska? And the drilling offshore is federally regulated with safeguards in place to prevent an oil accident. When is the last time you heard of an oil spill from a US company? Been a while. If you actually take the time to check the facts you will begin to see everything for what it really is and not jsut what CNN says, they are one of the most biased news outlets out there. You dont see all this bad stuff about Obama and saying "typical white people" if McCain said that but substitute black for white his career would be over. So you cant sit there and tell me the news media isnt biased because it is and it picks and chooses which facts to present to the general public.

Well here in North Texas I see GAS rigs everywhere lately since they started getting all the natural gas from around here... Yes I am leasing my mineral rights and getting a check... YES you see the freaking rigs not to mention hear them 24/7... YES is does obstruct and RUIN the roads cause they have to truck all that gas out... Also the process of getting to Shale reserves consumes tons of water per drill site, which cause alot of other problems....

Did you know that the drilling slurry that you are calling waste water is recoverable and most companies do and there are federal mandates on that. Even the bentinite additive that is a natural clay has to be recovered and taken offsite and spread out over a certain mandated square footage per gallon of the mixture? Does the site of a drilling rig really repulse you?

It has been a long time since the last spill, but where the last spill happened, the area still has not recovered... However the court case just got concluded a few weeks ago and the oil companies got off pretty easiely without having to pay much only had to pay the affected people 15k each, even thou it completely ruined the fishing industry in that area...... So IMO that set a precident (sp) which shows the oil companies they can be careless and not face serious consequenes...
