A friend just got a S&W .40 (SW9VE, I believe) holds 14. It's his 1st & only handgun. I said why no revolver? He said why restrict yourself to5, 6 7, or 8 shots?
To which I said, if u can't get it done w/. that number of shots, u might as well turn it on yourself. Cause u obviously can't shoot. Then I added, revolvers don't jam.

heres 2cents from a gun nut
Find something that fits your hands and your comfortable with.
Do some research on that model and see if theres any issues or problems with it.
Train, Train, Train... Training is really important. Know what to do when your adrenaline starts pumping? Its not exactly easy to think straight. Everything you do will be from what you have trained on. Ask me how i know
I always load some spent primers with no powder and a bullet, dump some in my ammo and go shoot in a match.. Know what to do when your sights are lined up, pressing the trigger, gun should have gone Boom! but it went Click...
on a revolver just pull the trigger again
I like the Springfield Armory XD series. I have a SA XD Service .40 that i shoot competitions with and carry it on the farm and such. I carry a SA XD Subcompact .40 everyday, that or a Ruger LCR 38spl.
I went with the XD cause i can close my eyes, pick up the gun and when i open my eyes the sights are lined up. They point natural for me. The Glocks point high and the sigs point low.
So just go look around and do some shopping.. let us know what you find.

Try out a .380, then a .38, then a 9mm then a .40 and then a .45 and see what fits you best.
I have a S/A Sub Compact 40 loaded with hollow points at home and FMJs when I am driving. I also have a mossberg shotgun like in the terminator movie. Once you buy one gun, they are like tatoos, you will end up with more.
What I like with the Xd's is that you can look at the gun and tell if its loaded or not visibly.
Even though you treat a gun like its always loaded.
