If you wanna get really technical, none of us should be calling our engines "motors"....correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the word motor was used to describe an electrical device, and if the powerplant in question is internally combusted, it's an "engine". Nothing wrong with a little slang though as long as one gets the point across.

Well ... not the ONLY, but you get the idea.

3/4 race cam
Now that is an old term. How about a dodge "Purple" cam
"It's got a purple cam in er". You have to pic a redneck saying that to get the full effect.
What has always chapped my *** is the Mustang boys talking about their x cams and b cams etc. they usually have no clue about the specs and what they mean. About people being stuck on lift #'s, that is an ongoing joke within my friends. people bragging about their cam and judging it solely on the lift. There are so many morons in this world it is rediculas. Some of us can't help it though

I keep seeing someone saying I'm getting a new 'stall' and I just cringe.
Nothing personal meant by this to anyone, just trying to educate the masses.

And what about a reminder that this is a bulletin board not some prepubescent IRC chat channel!
Single letter slang is not an acceptible substitute for a word:
"B" is not "be"
"C" is not "see"
"Q" is not "question"
"R" is not "are" or "our"
"U" is not "you"
"Y" is not "why"
Additional letter(s) added does not make it less incorrect:
"ur" is not "your" or "you're"
"qs" or "q's" is not "questions"
Other Abbreviations make no sense:
"b4" is not "before"
"gr8" is not "great"
"str8" is not "straight"
"cuz" is not "because"
"ne" is not "any"
"prolly" is not "probably"
"lil" is not "little"
"congrats" admit that you've forgotten how to spell "congratulations"
Some terms are not real words at all:
"hella" is not a word!

.Next time someone tells you they have a "3/4 race cam" just ask them with a puzzled look on your face "how did you get a V6 cam to work in a V8?". They'll look at you like your from another planet...trust me.
As for the motor vs engine deal... Being an electronics tech Im well aware of the differences and the correct application of the term but if using the term "motor" to describe an internal combustion engine is good enough for Smokey Yunick and Richard Petty then its good enough for me (maybe its just a southern thing?).
Personal pet peaves are when people attempt to describe the modifications to their engine and rattle off thats its been "bored, punched, balanced, and blue printed". For 90% of the knuckle heads out there in reality the engine was worn out when it was torn down, sent to the machine shop, hot tanked, new cam bearings insalled, and finally a rebuild kit was put in. They have absolutely no idea what "blue printing" actually is nor how to even attempt to do it (plasti-guaging one rod journal and one main does not count as blue printing). I actually had a fellow tell me in person that his engine was bored and punched to which I asked him what it did to **** him off after it was bored. Yes, I got the "your from another planet" look once again LOL.
The guys who REALLY get under my skin are what I call the "Ive got one better guys". We've all been around one at one point and as Im sure youre aware everything they see automotively speaking they own, used to own, or have a brother/cousin/uncle/etc that owned whatever you have only it was faster, had more turbos, was supercharged, turbo'd AND supercharged, etc etc and it was a special order factory deal. It never fails that someone who sees a syclone/typhoon will spout off how they or someone they knew had one but had twin turbos or the corvette engine or the twin turbo'd corvette engine etc which was an option that could be ordered from the factory. Ugh....it takes a LOT of effort not to slap them into next week on the spot.
Ok, Im a noob so I'll keep my rant(s) to a minimum.
