Exactly, that's where I see the flaw. These are federal and state regulated figures that don't change. I THINK we are arguing the same case, but I don't see how they're only getting 35 cents if the government regulated taxes is already more than that.

i dont work for the feds, so i have no idea how it all works.
but i do know that CA charges more tax per gallon then TX, thats why their prices are much higher.
if what i am understanding this commision over PUBLIC ROADS & HIGHWAYS is looking at a 50% increase of the 24% tax that is charged now.
the federal gov, may be a part of the Highway system, but your State and Local gov, is over Public roads in your area.

The only reason behind the FEDs losing money is lower usage. Less demand has been the so called reason for the fall in prices which also means they are bringing in less money over all.
They are telling the Big 3 to cut and adjust to the economy. yet they want to raise the tax to stay with the flow they had.. Come on. Just budget cut better and stop giving yourselves raises for playing golf.

An additional 1 cpg UST/AST Trust Fund Environmental Transport Fee.
Plus .2-cpg environmental assurance fee
and 0.12-cpg environmental response tax.
Plus 1 cpg environmental fee
Plus 6% sales tax and 0.875 cpg for environmental regulation fee for refined petroleum fund
Plus 0.4 cpg Environmental Protection Fee
