Blue flamed, that’s a good looking setup right there!! Thanks!

Custm2500, honestly that was my original plan.. but I looked at the down time and all the small things that added up in changing to an LS setup with the swap parts and what not.. it would far exceed my little play-toy budget.

I agree with a 5.3 or similar being an awesome way to go and depending on how fast you want to go, it will definitely carry you much farther (for the $$$'s) then the stock 5.0. Those 5.0's are only good to about 500 or so and then you get into the ticking time bomb scenario. That said you can go plenty fast with the ford stuff and it is cheap as there are thousands upon thousands of those cars running around...

Good luck

The 302 isn't like the LS and you swap factory heads and you improve. GT40 heads and explorer intake = still slow as hell and time wasted swaping them out.

Which Is why I said good heads. Stock to afr 165 outlaw heads and CAI gave me somewhere around 65 rwhp w my 5.0. Majority of that increased power came from the heads. 185s on a 8 psi blown 5.0 gave us 100 wheel.

Right now I have 225 outlaw heads on my 414 sbf and it makes just under 500 wheel NA but goes 10.5 at 128 all day driven to the track and weighs 3000 w out me. And a 180 shot and it goes 9.5 at 145.

BOTTOM LINE IS THEY WORK! But your gonna pay for them.

I dont see where it would cost more than 5000 dollars to ls swap it. A k member, modified windsor swap headers, a carb intake, msd box, and nice carb. A 150 shot on a carb ls even with a stock cam will take you way into the 11s very easily. Could easily do the entire swap for about 3000. Ive got about 3 of them going on right now for different people.
But if you are dead set on keeping it ford, i wouldnt keep it as an 8.2 deck unless you buy an aftermarket block.... Just my .02

Sorry i never updated this thread! I finished the motor build about 3 weeks back. Ended up grabbing some 'slow as hell' stock GT-40p heads and working them at the local head shop (p/p, valve job, mill), slid a custom spec'd Anderson racing cam in, RPM intake, LT headers.. then found a built rear that had an Eaton unit, 31 splined Mosers, and 4.10 gears in the 8.8" housing. I'd be confident to line this stock piece of crap up with that long bed HD

For others that were curious, i know these Fox's are a dime a dozen.. but it made 332 rwhp on the dyno through a 670 Avenger carb with vacuum secondaries and it weighs under 3k lbs. I haven't got to get it to the track yet, but i am pretty confident she'll go low 12's - high 11's.. and the best part, I am still at ~$3200 on the tally for the entire build, including the purchase of the car. I have bought almost everything used except for the cam.

Low 10's.. now thats moving! I just am trying to stay on this baby budget that the wife cleared me for. I got to ride in my buddy Blakes truck this weekend and it made me want to boost mine.. but my budget wouldnt allow that. He is running 5.3 with an S480 turbo. I think that's the turbo, i could be mistaken. Something like a 78mm, with some lightly worked 317's and a cam.. two-step, trans brake, etc. It was INSANE feeling. It just never stopped pulling like a damn freight train!! I think he has more in his transmission and electronics than i have in my entire car though.

Thanks man! all good suggestions! i have stumbled across most of those in the last month or so doing the build, mainly from searching google on my questions. Lots of good info on those! Tech has lots of good reads for LS swaps and carbs on the fox, but i didnt want to break the piggy bank. Maybe if this combo can live a year or two i can save the coin to do an LS swap. I think a junkyard 6.0 with a cam and light head work would run low 11's in this thing, or faster.
