does anyone build model cars?

that's cool, nice to hear others collect them. I'll post some pics later.
One long term project I have is the monogram 1/12 57 Chevy Bel air. I shaved all the bolts off, drilled holes with a pin vise and installed real turned fastners. Some of the bolt heads are .5mm. I have about 50+ hours into the engine only
I'm working on a 1/24 67 che ell as right now, I'll get some pics up soon.
Here's a link to an F40 I'm in the middle of

Here's the 57 Chevy. This build is important to me so I'm taking my time.off and on for two years or so now

I usded to do a bunch like that, was really proud of them too. One of the last ones I did, I actually tried to get really detailed on it. Then I realized how much time it took, and how untalented I was at it. In the end, hammers are really fun!!

I never got into it myself but my uncle who just recently passed away has built over 100 of them, with meticulous detail and has even taken them to model car shows. He left me over 100 still unopened the in original boxes and my other uncle and I are splitting the ones that he built to keep.

I have about 75 of them. They used to be displayed all over the house...then I got married. Lol.
Now, the best ones (7 of them) are in my office at work, and the others are all in the attic until I can build some display cabinets somewhere. My favorite two are my '67 Shelby GT500 Eleanor replica, and the separate model of its engine. Spent quite a bit of time on those.
You can still catch them on sale locally for less than $15. And I prefer die-cast to plastic...not sure about you guys.
Has anyone ever seen a Silverado SS or die-cast GMC Syclone model? I'd love to have one of those. I have a plastic Syclone model (one of the first ones I did) and it looks awful. My painting skills were terrible back when I put it together.

average price for the american kits, revell, monogram, amt etc. are about $15-$25. the $25 ones are new tooling, better detail etc. The japanese kits, Tamiya, Hasegawa and Fujimi are $35-$65 and they pretty much fall together and have excellent details .
Revell came out with a new 1/12 scale 2010 Shelby GT500 for about $65. pretty good deal.
