Default computer/internet help needed!

Ok, so our wireless internet we have at our apartment at college has a problem.....You know how you connect to a wireless network, well here's where our problem is. Went and got on the computer yesterday and just happened to look at how strong the connection strength was and it came to my attention that our network name now says "our name sucks dick". So im guessing someone has hacked it...? How could someone do this? and how can i fix this? Have to be someone who lives around us?

IM pretty sure wifi only has about a 300foot range...so it could have been someone close. and if the default password was left on the router with no encryption its pretty easy.. IE linksys routers come set with the default password as admin and to access them 192.168.1.1

Id do a hard reset on the router (hold the reset button down normally for 30 secs or till the lights go out) and then Set the the wifi name you want ,add and encryption key (WEP or WPA) and change the router password..

This prob all sounds like a different language, and if it does im sorry.maybe someone else will chime in lol

You must have not used a good password on your network, and most people leave their router login password set to default (usually like admin, or password). Then they logged in and changed your settings. You should unhook your router from the internet and connect it directly to your computer via ethernet cable and try to reset the router to default settings (might need the disc it came with to do this depending on router). Then make sure you set a more complex network key or password, and you might think about changing the routers main password for added security.

the password isn't something somebody would guess, its very random and off the wall. I'll try to figure out how to change the router's password?? i didn't know the router had a password though? just thought it was for the network connection? Even with the router password.....wouldn't they have to get the WEP password?

WEP Keys are crackable with a packet sniffer, but that would take alot of effort and time.

You are confusing Network (WEP) Key and Router password, they are different and not related. Someone has gone into the router settings by as described above and changed the name of the wireless connection. Someone will need to go into the router and reset it.
