I'm starting work this week in a remote location with no Verizon signal. I have heard of people using hard wired signal boosters in vehicles before to pick up service in areas that don't currently have it, but don't have any experience with them and have no idea how well they work. Can anyone shed some light?

FWIW, here is the location that I am working marked on Verizon's coverage map:

 

They work if there is a signal to be boosted. Unless you have a 20' mast with a Yagi on your truck you won't boost what isn't there. That said they are handy and do work very well for low signal locations. I always ran the 3 watt Wilson variety and have no complaints with them.

 

I've looked into them, bestbuy sells ones for like 200 bucks but you have tO leave it in the cradle for it to work. Don't really like that idea.

Use this one and it's problem solved. It's all we run in our trucks fleetwide.

 

Do you have Onstar? That's a pretty powerful cell phone, and the rates are great.

 

I do have Onstar. I haven't tried to use it near the mine yet, but I believe it runs on Verizon's network and may not get signal up there either.

Apparently T-Mobile has service at the mine, I'm looking at just switching carriers now rather than spending the $$ on boosting equipment.
