i do it all of the time. just be careful loading and unloading everything and you wont beat your truck up. either that or put the scrap on a trailer and dont load the bed.

you will get more money for everything if you have it seperated (ie:aluminum, copper, brass, steel, etc all seperate) and make sure you have it all weighed seperate and request they dont use their containers to weigh the stuff (one scrap yard i went to took 10lbs off of my weight for using their plactic trash can to weigh everything in)

years of accumalating numerous muscle cars, engine swaps, rears etc., we hauled off a bunch of steel, 15 batteries, i think 9 or 10 radiators, engines, rears, and got 900 bux not bad for a bunch of junk laying in the back of the field.

Why wouldn't they just weigh their plastic trash can empty, then take that from final figure? You got scammed.

Me and my friend used to do it, then the bottom dropped out in everything and it's not worth the price in gas for us to go out doing it anymore. We would be able to clear about a grand a weekend to go out and clean some places up, not too bad for one saturday morning considering we had to be there before the yard closed at noon. Then one weekend we came in with a pretty heavy load and got 200 bucks. That's about when we decided to forget doing that and start sleeping in lol. Cars are where it's at though, if you have a car trailer you can usually find people who have old cars that are beyond repair with titles. Have 'em sign it over to you, cut the cats off, pull the battery and radiator and turn it all in separately. I've found if you junk a car with all the stuff still in it they'll give you about the same price as they would with everything removed.

yea prices are way down.
We just hauled off a small station wagon today and got $120 for it. If you can get a bunch of copper and brass it's still worth doing.
We spent about 15 minutes a few weeks ago and got about $90 from a few bits of copper and brass. Our scrap yard is only 7 miles away so it doesn't hurt us in gas like it used to when we'd have to go all the way to OKC.

Just call your local yard and see what they are pricing at. The more you can get in a load the better.
Aluminum is WAY down right now and isn't worth the time stripping clean.

Good advice. Ya, like said above, when economy tanked & high price of gas a few yrs. back, it took this w/. it for the most part. If goin a distance to yard, it further eats away at $, as u said.

I make a scrap run probably about every 3-4 months. I keep all of my beer & soda cans. Doesn't seem like much but that little bit helps. Scrapping is a great way to make some extra cash on literally junk. I call it the redneck stock market.
