Default Anybody here ride bikes? self propelled that is..

Im looking into getting a new bike to replace my beat up one. I ride mainly cross country with a little mountain-ish stuff in there. I was looking at this bike http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkM...keTab=techspec and then a friend turned my attention to this one http://www.giantbicycles.com/us/030....sp?model=11265

Anyone ride either of these or know of any different ones in that price range?

Im sure either one of those would be good ones. I just started back into riding myself. I got a Trek recently so i could get some of these lbs off, mine is basically to get me too and from class here at AU but i havent made it that far yet. A friend of mine just got a Trek also that he uses for mountain biking, i think his was about a grand and mine was close to 500. When i was younger i had a Specialized brand bike, i was around 10 or 11 when i got it, dont remember everything about it, but it served me well without a prob for the next 4 or 5 years.

Im leaning more towards the specialized

Upon second thought, that title should read, "propelled by yourself"

I have bmx roots, but if mountain bikes are your thing,
i would go with trek or connondale(sp)

Myself, i lean towards standard, fit, animal BUT those are mainstream bmx companies

I would lean more towards the Specialized as well. But then again I dont know too much about MTB's. I just think Specialized has better products. Im a BMX rider as well and pimp a Fit.
