anybody have a travel trailer??
anybody have travel trailers on here?? hopefully in Jan. I'll be in the market for a travel trailer, looking to spend time with the family next year going to state parks, rivers and stuff? I just want a heads up in what to look out for? I know they make them ultra lite travel trailers now days that weight 4000-5500lbs. so that a 1/2 ton truck can pull, hoping to rent one before I purchase one, I want to find out if my z-71 can pull it, if not, then Im going to have a step up to a diesel... feel free to post up pics if yall have some... so far I know I want a 28' one with the outside made of like gelcoat?sp? I dont want the aluminum tin looking ones...

My parents have one that my dad pulls with his 2007 Ford 150 extended cab. I'll try to get some more information on it. I think it is decent sized...I think it sleeps 7 or 8...

My dad bought 2 of these from the government. That is one he is selling now he paid much less than it is going for. Only problem with them is they don't have holding tanks for waste and water so they have to be hooked up to services. Not great for travel I guess, but you can get one cheap if you look hard. The ones he got are almost like new barley used at all.

I've had 2. The first one was a 24' Mobil Scout by Sunnybrook. I sold it for a 29' Prowler by Fleetwood (with bunks). If I did it all over again, I would get a pop-up. They are lite, cheap and when the thrill of owning a camper wears off and it sits for 8months in a row and is only used from 2-3 times per summer, they are easy to sell. My take on camping trailers is....Where do you spend most of your time? Outside right? Then you really don't need to tow an entire house with you for a weekend getaway. My Prowler was 6600lbs loaded with gear and food. My 4.8 towed it fine but NO overdrive. It didn't have enough ***. But with the TBSS, I can't even feel my 4000lb boat back there.LOL!!!!

most of the 28' travel trailers under 5500 lbs will have no slide or be single slide ultra lites
gelcoat is the glossy layer on the fiberglass, not all fiberglass trailers are gelcoated but most of the more expensive ones are, fiberglass looks better imo and will stand up to the elements better than alum skirting.....
5500-6000lbs is the borderline for most 1/2 tons imo, some people are completely ok with it...others would rather use a 3/4-1 ton
depends on how often you plan to pull it.....
the fema trailers like the one posted in the link above extremely basic and dont have holdings tanks or awnings (that i have seen yet anyways) some were also built without micro, refrig, stove/oven (notice the one in the link has a house refrig and is not built in)...if you decide to go that route i would have it inspected first...things like the cooling unit for refrig are around 1k to replace
