Im needing a camera system for my home, its going to be outdoors, and i want it on DVR. Thinking i need a 4 camera system but i have no clue what brands of stuff i need. I see there is a Qsee 4ch system at my local sams and there is mixed reviews on Qsee, so i dont know what to do....
I want like everyone else quality but at a low cost.
My home recently was broken into while i was at work and my wife had left the home for a 2.5hr period, when she returned the front door was kicked in, tv gone, so she left in a hurry and came back with my mom (sheriffs dep) and another dep that she called to report the burglary. All they took was the TV, a 2 gal air compressor, and a camera. But its the fact they were in my space and were not welcome there, we still dont have any leads on who they were.
I made a new striker plate for the front door 4" wide x 24" long, made of 1/8" stainless steel, its going to use 14 2.5" screws to hold it in. Alarm is installed, and now looking for a camera system.

I actually have a home DVR setup sitting in a box that I pulled out of a customer's business when they went out of business and they didn't want it. I haven't had time to check the cameras, but I've had it for a couple months. I can check everything out on it to be sure it all works if you're interested.
The cameras are indoor/outdoor "Tamper proof" cameras they may be infrared "night vision" as well. I can get you some pictures if you want.
A GOOD camera system will cost you upwards of 1000+ new, and will use coax cable or IP cameras, if you go IP you're looking at a minimum of doubling your investment for the same quality of camera's.
EDIT: I just went and looked, I have 6 camera's and they're NOT infrared

One thing I read and this may sound silly but those little signs on the front lawn and the stickers by the door they say that will deter 90% of thieves. And this wasnt like some half assed article it was I a big newspaper. They said when thieves see the signs and such they assume u have alarm system and they move on to the next target. I could the signs at a out foreclosed house(they didn't need them anyway) and the stickers u can get on the internet. All it is Is a really good bluff and it does work I can assure u that. Knock on wood in my case!!!!

between the sticker on the window and one of those fake cameras that just have the red light so it looks like its on. (runs off batteries) I think you would be good to go. If you have the funds though real cameras would be nice. google 'fake camera" You may be surprised how real they look.

thanks to everyone for the replies....
I do have funds for a nice camera system, but not to go overboard like with IP cameras. I really would like the infared cameras also, living in the sticks and one dusk to dawn light makes me want a few good cameras.
Thanks dmelvin, but like i was saying i really want infared. I will PM you.
WhiteChevy3 - take a look at CCTVForum.com, very knowledgable but there into the more expensive stuff it seems to me.
