Default Any RC nerds?

Anyone else play with RC cars? I’ve got a Redcat Wendigo and just picked up a Traxxas Rustler VXL 4x4. Both are 3s. @arthursc2 The Redcat IS a rock crawler haha.

I'm not a nerd, not anymore. I used to be hella into RC (at one point I had probably 20 models) and have since really scaled back, sold a lot of them and only kept the ones I loved

I have an early Bronco bodied scaler I built in college. This girl will never leave me. There are probably legit 3000mi on her. Brushed 35t, 2s. Wheely King axles, stampede trans, TCS chassis. Circa 2008 "legit" parts 😂

I have an Element Enduro Trailwalker I've been playing with. Stock motor, equivalent to a 35t, 2s. 1.9 swap, planning to add the "suv back", roof rack and winch/lights

An Axial Yeti TT on 2s 3600kv, lowest gearing as possible. I like to watch the suspension work, not try to break the sound barrier. Got as a kit for my b-day 2016, hasn't had a full pack run thru her yet. Once Axial discontinued the truck she got shelved

Losi SCB, 3600kv, 2s. Full TLR build, all metal trans, 18/78 gearing. She rips wheelies on command but for the most part she is a display queen too

The fastest one I own is my Revolt 30, 4S boat. Will GPS just under 60 on the water. I used to have friends with skis, and I have them make a wake and I'd plow it with the boat. We could get the boat 15-20' off the water. It was baaaaaad. Hasn't been on the water since easily 2015

I figured you would have a few. I’m just starting to get in to it and I’m really enjoying it. Especially as the kids get older and more into these things. Definitely cheaper than the damn blazer. Stripped the spur gear on the Traxxas and broke the link on the Wendigo this week. Cost me $40 for new ones. Don’t even want to think what the blazer would have cost me.

As with any hobby, it will bleed you dry if you let it!

can you do a Mod 1 drive upgrade on the Slash/StamRustler4x4? Mod 1 is where it's at for high power

It’s rated for where I’m at now. The stripped gear is totally my fault. The esc was doa so I had them warranty it. Went and ran it right after I get everything reassembled but I should have let the lock tite dry some more. Pinion gear set screw loosened up and the gear slipped off. I said screw it and sent it and tore it apart. Metal spur gear delivers tomorrow. I’m tempted to throw the smaller pinion on and crank the speed up to 65mph. I’m also eyeballing a slasher because I need another money put apparently.

Smaller pinion is slower, FYI

Metal is cool, but nylon Mod 1 is more betterer, cheaper and quieter 😉

Ignore what I say. I know what I meant haha.

If I blow this up again I’ll look at the mod 1.

Oh I’m an rc nerd for sure. We currently have 6 running rc cars. All of them are pro level race cars though. Me my wife and son race off road and carpet. We have 2 TLR 8ight T truggies, a tekno short course, and 3 team associated carpet cars. We race as a family and it’s a ton of fun.

Here are a couple of pics from this week. The wife and I got second in our races this week.

I really need to buy us some basher level cars to play with in the yard. My oldest son and his buddy brought their traxxas cars over recently and had the time of their lives bashing in the street and I couldn’t even get our cars out to run out there. Pretty lame…

I was huge into them as a kid. So, now that I have a 7 yr old I have way more of them than I should. I am a fan of the older HPI Savages and love the Traxxas VXL stuff. My son broke his first differential last month, I told him at least this one only cost me 75 bucks to fix... Lol.
