I miss my 7pm to 5 am days... I never needed black out curtains or anything. I was so damn worn out from work I would pass out in front of the TV almost immediately. To this day if I sit still long enough I just fall asleep.
My favorite part of night shift is you wake up, have your day (errands, dinner out, whatever) then go to work and when you get home you go straight to bed. I still have the instinct to go right to be after work... makes for a lot of 3 am boredom these days though. I feel like I don't get anything done with a day job.

Ive been doing it for 3 years now. My boss has offered me a day position and i turned it down. I think its mainly because i work at the headquarters and dont want to deal with all the office people, safety, supervisors, owner etc, looking over my shoulder. Theres only 3 people in the shop plus about 5 dispatchers in the hole building we all know each other and its laid back, get to listen to whatever radio station. Whatever..i can go forever on the pluses of night shift.

I worked the 2nd shift (2p-9:30p) in my 20's and loved it because we only had to work 7hrs for 8hrs pay, and it diddn't mess with my sleep..3rd shift is a whole other animal
Ghetto *** tin foil works well too, If you dont want to buy solid curtains..And alot of Pregnant women take Benadryl for "safe" sleep ..Look for a brand called Irwin Naturals in a green labeled bottle (they have a big product line) they sell a ALL natural/non habbit forming sleep pill that works wonders..take that and read a book in a dim room, and you will be out..Also your immune system will be attacked , so take some vitamins addressing that as well..And last always try and do a "make-up-sleep" once a week to catch up if you are not sleeping 7+ hrs per 24hr period...Good Luck

Yep red neck tin foil works well but looks crackish.. Lol.. I tried melatonin and I only get like 2-4 hours on it then I'm wide awake till the middle of my dhift when I'm dragging ***!!! Benys work the best but if I see any daylight in my room ill wake up... Just a natural response I suppose... But I agree.. No supervisors+no politics=WIN for night shift.
