Default 20s or 22s

Well I had my truck aligned today and the GM techs freaked about how thin I had to shave my ball joint nuts to clear my 17s on drop spindles. Honestly, ya, it's not safe. So I'm looking for bigger wheels. I found some pretty rad deals on Yukon 20s and Cadillac 22s. How much is the ride gonna suffer from 22s versus 20s? Any difference in mileage? I have 4.10s. I REALLY wanna keep my light, cheap little 17s, but I don't want my front end flying apart with my wife and son in the truck... Thanks!
