TOTQ Winner 2nd Qtr. 2013- CarbonGMC
Congratulations to CarbonGMC
I want to start off by telling everyone thank you for the votes! I've seen the past winners here, and Im honored to be on this list! Also, thank you to all my friends that have helped me, its very much appreciated guys!
I bought my 2009 Sierra brand new with 0.7 miles on Dec. 23, 2009. I completely blame Skipperdaddy (Trey) and Iamkeniff (Niff) for the transformation it has turned into today. I told them it was staying stock till the wheels fell off, and their influences kinda took over.
The day I bought it
Got it home and put 2" shackels on and tinted the windows. I was done with the truck at this point if you asked me.
After a few weeks, I bought a 4/6 drop and searched for wheels to go with it.
Found a guy wanting to trade my stocks for his 24" Boss 333 wheels. Rubber band tires, I know. \
From there it went to performance, and the plan of trading the truck in on a 6.2 crew cab. Instead, I wake up to a text from Iamkeniff saying Trick Performance has non IC turbo kits on sale for 1800 bucks. I jumped on it! I ended up getting an IC, piping, and Snow meth kit from Truckshop (Shelton) at the same time.
The truck made 543 to the tires on 10psi and meth. After just a few months of it being boosted, I had a lifter lock up and ate itself, along with the cam. Went with a custom EPS cam and did a mild P&P job on my heads while they were down.
After the new cam and porting, it made 558 to the ground, but I was at the limit of my fuel system. After a few months of fun and racing, the ineveitable happened. It spiked to 13psi and decided to hold it. Number 5 piston didnt survive....
And now is when the truck started down the road its on today. Skipperdaddy was nice enough to GIVE me an LQ4 block he had waiting for a future project, just so I could get going on a new motor build before my 5.3 got pulled out. Much props to him for that! I teamed up with Geoff at EPS to help me with getting the block ready for machine work, and for advice on which route to go on things. We dial bored the cylinders and decided to only go 0.0005 over to clean up the block. We contacted Diamond for a set of custom LS boost pistons. The wrist pin has been moved up to lower compression to 9.5 running the 243 heads, and the piston skirts were coated. They are connected to a set of Callie's Compstar rods, and LS3 crank from a 2011 Camaro that only had 1000 miles when pulled out.
Machine work and rotating assembly was handled by Eric Procell in Orange TX. I couldnt be happier with his customer service by the way.
After many phone calls and texts with David (USABodyguard), he led me to dress the engine bay up a little.
The frame rails have been stripped and painted.
Davis also told me about The Polishing Shop in Oxnard CA, and it kind of snow balled from that point. Polished so far is the Edelbrock Pro Flo XT intake, the front half of the stock alternator, the turbo compressor housing, all IC piping, and David's old LS3 TB.
Still out for polish is the back half of the alternator, an extra alternator and power steering pump bracket, and a set of sheet metal valve covers. But for the most part, the truck is close to being complete at the moment. I have a total of 95 miles on the engine as of this morning, and after some changes to the fuel system, it will be getting dyno'd in the next few weeks. All Im looking for is 600 to the ground, and I see that being very easy with this set up. I dont need or want any more power right now, as Im tired of breaking it, and Id like to enjoy it for a while and bring it to a few shows over the summer.
