j's01silverado: January 2007 TOTM
This month's TOTM is sponsored by JPA
After looking at a ton of 86-87 Grand Nationals, 87-93 5.0’s, and 96-98 Silverado’s, I decided to purchase a truck back in December 2000.
I never thought about making my truck faster, just about the typical things an 18 year old thinks is cool... big rims, dropped, and a loud system.
Well… After a long summer of working construction, I was able to buy a DJM Calmax 2/4 drop kit with 20” Centerline Lexi II's which lasted less than a year. I wanted the bling factor and later went with Weld Evo Slingblade 6 with Nitto 285/35R22’s. Despite most saying that they would be way too big, I thought they looked great.
I went back to school in Fall and could not keep my head out of Truck magazines. I read in class all the time, and not textbooks. lol I had a local body shop complete all the body work over the course of 2 months... and that cost me an arm and a leg. I could have had a 6.0 and bolt ons for the price. lol
Then came the stereo. A Pioneer DVD head unit, JL amps and subs, MB Quartz mids and highs, and Microvision monitors in the headrest.
Now that I was rolling on nice rims, had a low stance, and loud tunes… The engine was next!!!!
I started off like much of us, a Superchips handheld programmer, Volant intake, and flowmaster duals. 6 months later, I found myself driving down Highway 101 to Magnuson in Ventura, CA to have my new Maggie installed.
The minute I drove the truck after the supercharger install, I knew I had it all backwards. How could I neglect power for looks. That is when I joined PT.net and have been ever since. As most know, it has been a rough road with a lot breaks. Four 4L60E’s, One 5.3, three 10 bolts, and a driveshaft.
But is all worth racing and getting faster....
Show
Go - 473rwhp/503rwtq
And going to the races and letting the Synergy girls get in the back of my truck...
I finally got it into the 12’s which was my ultimate goal. Now I want 11's... Im probably going to need a 14 bolt to get there without breaking.
I also plan to add leather seating, escalade gauges, and billet accessories inside. One thing at a time I guess.... lol
