Default Trouble starting

Hey guys. My wife's TBSS has almost left her stranded twice. After shutting it off and trying to restart it maybe 10 min. later it will only start if you hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor. The first time it happened a mechanic was close by and told her to hold the gas pedal down or pump it and then hold it down and it would start. The "check oil pressure and temp. gauge light" was on. He said TB's were notorious for bad fuel pumps. It did it again today and she got it home and I noticed the temp. gauge was dead set on 100 degrees. I got it to start and it eventually idles fine and I let it run for 5 min. and it never left 100 degrees. I thought an electric fuel pump was either good or bad? Since it will eventually idle and run fine I find it hard to believe it is the fuel pump. What in the cooling system could it be to keep it at 100 degrees and give it starting trouble? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks for the reply. I have heard that there are problems with the ignition switches on the TB's, but would that keep the coolant gauge at 100 degrees?

yep,the ignition switch's in all GM cars/trucks have been well known to do some crazy stuff when they go bad.

How tuff is it to change the switch? I looked under the column and there were no screws visible. I bought her SS used with a full blown aftermarket stereo and I don't know if they had to go into the column for any reason and maybe just left the screws out. I also read that there is an upgraded switch with a different part number. Thanks again!

Have you noticed the temp gauge issue before? Staying near 100 sounds like a coolant sensor problem. Mine gets warm pretty quickly and the gauge shows it.

I haven't noticed it before, but it is my wife's and not mine so I don't spend that much time driving it. The LS based motors do get up to temp. very quickly though. I changed the oil about a week before this happened, and the "check oil press./water temp." light is on, but I don't see the correlation between that and the starting problem. I think the ignition switch may just be the culprit, now I just need to find out what is involved in changing it. Thanks for the input!
