Hey Im going to be buying a 1989 Chevrolet 4x4 soon and its going to be used for half off/half on road use, its got a 5.7 in it currently will this be plenty enough for what I want or should I get a crate engine if so what should I get? Or should I mod the engine?

in that truck i would suggest a stroker to put the power down where you need it

a 383 stroker would be nice but the motor should be fine as is

i have a complete vortec 5.3 for sale. alot of the buggy guys love these engines now days. hell, even quite a few of the wrangler guys are doing 5.3 swaps. i would think more about power and dependability in the same package.

1' suspension and 3" body wit 44s

6" suspension wit 35s is i think the best you can do for a truck and keep it some what reasonable. usually once you get any bigger than that your spendin some $$$

i know on the NBS trucks over a 35" tire on a 1/2 ton and front suspension parts start breaking under stress but IDK about on the 88-98 body style

either a 6" lift and 35s or some 33s and a small lift ( 3" body or something close)

lower gearing would also offset the lack in power to an extent

amount of lift also would depend on how harsh the terrain would be off-road

if its going to be 50/50-on-off-road 33s may suit you better since there are more A/T tires in a 33" than 35s and all-terrain tires are what you need

33s and 4.56 gears and a 3" body lift ( just make sure you get your bumpers lifted too rear especially) should do you good for what it sounds like you will be using it for
