Towing with turbo silverado
Hello guys I’ve got a single cab 04 Silverado 4x4 has 5.3 turbo on a 4l80e! Has anyone towed with their turbo trucks? If so what kind of towing capacity would you all recommend? Or what do you guys think I’d be able to do? Just out of curiosity really not too sure I will ever tow with it!

Add an oil cooler
Put the V8 rad in there if it isn't already
Make sure the knocks are healthy and reading
Make sure the knock retard table is updated and can pull enough timing
If you hear a rattle like noise under load BACK OUT, you have too much timing
I have towed under boost more than I haven't. It got to the point where my tuner and I just loaded his car on a trailer and we drove around for half the day. There were a lot of little things he touched up that absolutely changed how the truck responds while loaded. Timing was the #1 thing. Controlling timing will control everything from heat to how quickly the turbo loads up
With a good tune and functioning sensors: 100% non-issue if temps are under control

Are you tuning the truck yourself? Do you have a boost controller?
Timing and shift points are the biggest things depending on how much weight you are pulling. If you have HPTuners or EFIlive, you can easily tune the truck to act how you want. You don't want to stay in high boost for a long hill pull because temps will get very high, as temps get very high you can also have waste gate issues if you have a rather small waste gate. At high temps you have so much exhaust energy that the gate may not be able to dump enough to control the turbo. Rather rare issue, but something to look out for if the system starts acting weird while towing. You can of course modulate boost with your right foot, however that is where you might fight shift points, i.e. let off some to lower boost and then it upshifts
. Again all of this is fixed with tuning and depends on how much weight..
Towing and flex fuel are why I installed a boost controller. I just turn mine down to 4-5 psi while towing, you don't have too, but it made things easier for me.
