Sorry but I know nearly nothing about 4wds. What does 'divorced' mean when retaining to the transfer case?

It means that the transfer case is not bolted directly to the transmission, there is a short drive shaft between the transmission and the transfer case.

Now does anyone know more about this adapter? I don't want to go through a divorce. Mine is a K5 Jimmy, 32's on stock heighth. With the K5's short wheel base I need as small of a package as possible. Don't want to go to short on the driveshaft.
