NNBS cv axles on knuckle lifted NBS

I've been running the spacers for years on my cv's because of my lift.I realized they are the same length with the spacers as the NNBS cv's. Swapped them out today. They have better angles now and no more spacers.
Don't know if this is old news but just wanted tell anyone with a lifted NBS.

AKlowriderZ71 02-24-2012 04:36 PM

Direct bolt in? That's good info, thanks!

sharpshooter 02-24-2012 05:19 PM

Direct bolt in.

I'm gunna measure and see if they will work in mine... you took any pics yet

sharpshooter 02-24-2012 05:31 PM

NBS cv 21"
NNBS cv 22 7/8"

My fabtech spacer = 1 7/8"

No pics yet.

Thanx man that's great I'm gunna try some in my truck .. wish I would have known this along time ago. Do you 4wd launch with it sitting like it does or do you decrank it?

SLOWOH1 03-17-2012 12:58 PM

Bumpers you ever get em put in on your truck? I'd like to see if they run on a 6" NTD like yours

Posted this up on GMFS, thought I would post here for anyone curious about the NNBS axle swap for lifted NBS trucks. Big thanks to sharpshooter for the discovery.

The truck (2000 Silverado Z71 on 33's)

Old axles:

New NNBS axles from Cardone (about $40 each from RockAuto), note the much improved CV angle:

NBS old axle with 1 7/8" spacer vs NNBS axles

Took about 2.5 hours working slowly but with an impact. Pretty easy swap. I did have to disconnect the bottom of each shock and swing it out to fit the old axles out from in between the shock and sway bar end link.

How Long were your axles lasting with the spacers? that angle was brutal!

BigDaddy0381 01-30-2014 12:53 PM

tag, mine last 9 months before boots rip in my 04. going to try the part number ya'll posted. maybe it will work for me.

No idea, just bought the truck 2 weeks ago from a friend for cheap. Has 120k miles total, no idea when the lift was put on. But the cvs were totally shot.

pewterliftedz 01-30-2014 07:12 PM

Is that just a TB crank TXTahoe, or TB crank and a lift kit?

Fabtech lift kit and looks like a bit of a crank. I need to decrank it, looks a bit extreme.

Need to replace the pitman and idler arms and get it aligned before it's driveable, the alignment is way off.

BigDaddy0381 02-14-2014 09:39 AM

what year are you using for the new axels? I'm guessing different than a 04? or are the new ones longer than the 04's?

Decranked it about 7-8 threads, CV angle is much flatter now. Will post pics when I have time.

I bought axles for a 2010 Silverado 1500 4wd off of Rock auto for ~$38 a piece. My understanding is any NNBS axles for a 1500 4wd truck should fit.

BigDaddy0381 02-14-2014 10:53 AM

what did you use for the shorter bolts? did u buy factory or others?

Seems to have worked out. 2010 was a tad longer then the factory with the spacers. I think it will be fine.

I went to the hardware store and bought 12 grade 8 shorter bolts. Only about $0.45 each.

You may want to decrank your torsion bars a few threads, that "after" CV angle can be improved a bit and help the lifespan of the axles.

Here is my angle after I decranked mine 7-8 threads. See the before above in post 13, same NNBS axle, just really cranked bars.

BigDaddy0381 02-25-2014 06:53 AM

I agree, But i'm waiting now to do the coil over upgrade to get away from the T-bars.So i'm going to see what the ride height is on it then.

GREENSIERRA 02-25-2014 02:05 PM

holy smokes you guys are making me feel better about my angles. lol
I was cranked like you guys when I was on 40"s and all 4 boots riped after about a year
