Need advice on turbo for a new 2020-2021 chev Silverado
#1
I will be buying a new 2020-2021 Chevy Silverado 4x4 crew cab 1/2 ton
I want a lot of power but I still need the truck as a regular reliable everyday work truck, towing/hauling etc.
1- how much horsepower is too much for a regular driver? 500? 600? 700? I would like to keep the drivetrain the same.
2- go with the 5.3 or 6.2 engine?
3- I would like a turbo? recommendations?
4- what size exhaust? Or can part of the existing be utilized?
5- computer mods? Recommendations?
6- I would like to avoid internal engine work.
7- anything else I should consider? Anything I should request from my dealer to make these modifications more suitable?
thanks

There is only one option for tuning and that is HP Tuners.
The minimum cost is $1,900 USD because you must get a replacement computer that is unlocked by HPT and then you need the cost of credits to license it. If you don't own HP Tuners already, you need to spend another $300 for that plus a wideband at $200-250 for a good one.
There are very few shops that have done supercharged or turbo's on these new trucks. I've yet to hear of many NA trucks with tunes because the cost is so high. There is also zero TCM support for the 2019+ T1XX trucks so you can't tune the transmission.
If money and time is no issue, then go right ahead but things are going to cost you way more than you think on these new trucks. And do not be surprised if there are many hiccups along the way as not many have done these things yet.

Thanks for that info,
I actually currently drive a 2018 with the 5.3
would I have better luck with it?
did they significantly change the Silverado as of 2019
as for cost I was expecting $10-15k

Everything is new on the 2019+ new body style trucks. They may have the same displacement engines and same transmissions but all the computers are different.
They use a different engine management style in the new computers so it's not something many have dealt with.
There is far more support for a 2014-2018 truck. The 6 speed and 8 speed transmissions are both supported by tuning software.

The old saying "cheaper to keep her" definitely applies here. I thought of doing the same. Probably lucky for me there was not a 6.2 dbl cab in the entire country so I bought a 17k mi 16. Still collecting parts. agree with every singe thing about except I think the standard hpfp will handle 600 whp on 93 no problem if my research is correct. On E85 that is definitely the top limit and not the best choice.
