So after fighting with my homemade tool to replace the valve springs on my truck, with the ls3/ly6/l96/etc, etc rectangular port heads.... I am going to buy a tool, however ive found three or four different ones the comp cams 5462 whoch happens to look exactly like the proform version COMP Cams 5462, Comp Cams LS-Series Valve Spring Compressor | COMP Cams
Im not fond of the idea of the comp/proform setting into the aluminum rocker arm pedestal mount, seems like a lot of stress on that piece of aluminum, and i saw a post somewhere of one breaking while using that style tool... The tool i made looks like the tims or larry tool or whatever, which for a single valve spring wouldnt be bad, but i cant seem to find a 8x1.25 stud thats fully threaded and long enough to make it work properly..... Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or has used one of these tools before...... Here is what i made
I ended up shaving the open end to an angle on both sides to clear the corners or the head on the front and rear springs andended up trimming the backside up and putting a notch in it to clear some of the points of my intake and injectors...
I plan on buying one in next few days, because well im an idiot and have left over spring seats and am missing an old seat
How well do the comp/proform (as they look identical) compressors work on the rear springs and with the rocker mount in place??? Kinda leaning towards that design as it looks slightly more universal....
I ended up buying the trick flow compressor from summit... Need to get another nut for it though the instructions even say its supposed to come with one to lock the stud in place and one to compress the springs with and it only comes with one....
i have the trickflow one right next to me and never really used it as the people that milled my heads put the springs in also. i did try it out tho and it dose work nice.
just make sure when using it to lube the bolt that pushes on the spring every time you use it.
Good to know.... Planned on lubing it up... Sadly i need to go through and make sure i didnt either leave any seats out or leave an old one in.... Or a seal off.... Had extras and kicking myself over it, took truck around the block once since just to see how she felt with the new cam... other than that havent driven her.... Hopefully get it taken care of one night this week....
