Just grind down the old head bolts so there is a flat surface. Alterative is to buy the ARP chasers.

I just installed heads and got fed up with the tap and paper towel deal, so I came up with a solution: take a $20 walmart "mini" wetvac, duct tape a straw to the end of it. Spray the bolt holes with brake cleaner and then suck it out with the wet vac. Repeat x 1 and my bolt holes were pristine. And I could do each bank in 15 minutes.

I did exactly what GMC said, took a stock head bold, ground 2 sides flat, cleaned it up nice and went to town, that was about 8 years ago and that old bird is still running strong.

when I started the process I took an air nozzle and blew the bolt hole out good, I did them one at a time, blow it out, stuff a kleenez in it, do the next one, same step for all of them. once they were all clean, I went back and pulled the kleenex and used the chaser, again, one at a time to ensure that each was clean. I didn't have any issues. Some of the studs need a little extra nuttup to get it down in it's spot, but not to much.
