I have CDT's in my truck and hands down they are some of the best speakers I have ever heard. I am running a ppi 1200 watt 4 channel amp and the CDT's handle every thing I throw at them and have yet to clip.

For the money I also say Controlled Dispersion Technologies!

I have been browsing for an "economic quality" speaker myself for the Tahoe. Right now I am tring to decide between the Infinity Reference, Polk dB, Kicker and Crossfire(local stereo store carries them and claim they are the shiz although I haven't heard them yet). I have had the Infinity's in my truck for about three years and they still sound great. I had Polk's in my old '95 truck and liked them as well.

mephis is good, focal is great if you can get them for as low as $200.

in the future, try DLS or DD. $ for $ the mainstreamers don't compare, not even CDT.

or if you can find anyone with "new old stock" or used crystal mobile sound SSX coaxles or SSCS components, those things were the best for the $ i have ever came across.

pegasus and hypnotic also sounded great for the $ in their price ranges, but i don't have any experience with how either of them hold up long term, or how much abuse they can take. these 2 i've only got to audition at c.e.s..
