Default Upgrade To a 00 - 02 BCM module

Shouldnt I be able to upgrade my BCM module from my 99 silverado to a 00 - 02 silverado? So i am able to override my headlights at night. Mainly because i am tired of turning the truck off put the parking back on and turning the truck back on just so the lights dont come on when you are in a parking lot at a townhouse waiting. What would not let me change to an 00 - 02 BCM module???

My truck doesnt have that. I pushed it 4 times 9 times and no ding. My moms 00 blazer has the override button. But you would think i could just swap out the 99 bcm with a 00 or something.

You could swap out for the '02 pcm but you'll have to do a crank relearn. I heard they are better for tuning anyway; but I don't know if it would have anything to do with the dome override switch. You could just push the e-brake one notch, that'll make the light go off but isn't enough to actually engage the e-brake.

Jay's asking about the BCM (Body Control Module), which is separate from the PCM (Powertrain Control Module)...but you are correct, the 02 PCM is a nice upgrade for a 99-00 for tuning purposes.

I also considered swapping in a newer BCM for the same reason, I would think that it can be done, but it may require a reflash by a dealer to work. I took the easy way out and wired an LED in place of the photodiode, making my headlights fully manual. Did it right at the BCM under the driver's side dash. Cost less than $2 and took about 5 minutes...having full control over your headlights.....priceless

Yep...you can either use a resistor or other form of diode. I used an led because I took a shot that it had about the same resistance as the photodiode. Got it at Radio Shack. You can do it either at the photodiode on the dash, or the BCM under the dash. I just snipped the wires right at the BCM since it's so easy to access. Just make sure you wire it in the right way, or the headlights will stay on all of the time (for those who don't hnow, a diode is like an electronic check valve, they have a + and - side and only allow current to flow in one direction)

Here's a schematic for anyone who needs it:

I'm not the man for this. I hate wires with vehicles, the most i will do is changing a radio and speakers which i have done tons and tons of.

Oops, thought it was a typo; makes sense now considering the lights have nothing to do with the powertrain. So what kind of effect would this have on the DRL's? Can you wire them to come on when you want them too?
