Default Thinking of replacing stock speakers

I was wondering, how easy/hard is it to replace the factory speakers? I am not sure if I want to do this, aftermarket speakers would be better. If I do change them out I am thinking of gettin' these.

my experience has said, don't bother unless you're upgrading the headunit also and/or adding an amp. but i'm sure some of the audio guys will chime in.

Those will work ok with the stock head unit, but would sound better with more power to them. consider a component setup for the front if you have tweeters in the doors already, that gives the best high definition as those 6.5's are multi voice coil units. an external amp would give the best sound, but gets pricey, if you are just looking for a small upgrade.

The first thing I did was take out the stock HU. The reason I am not sure if I want to upgrade is because I have other plans for my truck, thing like appearance. If I do get those speakers I dont think I want to be running a second amp for them.

The speakers you are looking at are 2 ohm, pretty much all headunits stock or aftermarket are 4ohm or higher. So in order to run those speakers you will need to run a external amp. If you dont want to do that find the reference series speakers they are 4 ohm. I'm running 6010cs in the doors and 6412cfp speakers in the back and they sound great.

post ur model number its prob. 4ohm though. I like the alpine type S if you only going to run HU power. Its a common mistake to get "REALLY GOOD" speakers with out a amp and then you can barley make them move and all you end up with is a big tweeter

I used to have a 99 and put Infiniti Reference component 6.5s (not Kappa) speakers in it with the stock GM head unit. The stereo shop folks recommended tthat I not use the higher end Kappas with the factory HU. The Reference units were definitely quite an improvement over stock. Made some mounts for the tweeters in the stock location with 1/4" MDF and spraypainted them (the adapters) black....they looked stock. Double-sided taped the crossovers to the door panels.

The crossovers had two settings, one of which quieted the highs a bit...make sure you opt to use that setting or the sound will be a bit piercing.

Alright, say I buy those speakers I said when I started this thread, they will sound ALOT better than the stock ones huh! A lil'more bump, but like people say they will bump more with an amp. I really dont want to add a second amp though.
