Default Tach Help

I got my 5" tach with shift light in today I know I don't need it but it looks cool and it was cheap so I bought it. Its not working though. I tapped into the tach signal wire on the back of the cluster and it has power all the way to the tach but shows no rpm's. I've flipped the switch on the back for 4,6, and 8 cyl modes but still nothing. It has the buttons on it...one up one down and one mode. press the mode button and it goes to tach, press it again and it goes to set, so you can adjust when the shift lift comes on. I can't figure this thing out. Kind of looks like maybe its a bad tach but I dunno. Oh by the way...Its brand is TypeR

I hooked it up the way the diagram is labeled and thats all thats really on there. Its got three little gauges inside of it for oil pressure, oil temp, and water temp and I didn't hook the wires up to them because i need to install the sending units first. I think I've got a bad tach

you can get a signal from your coil wire if I remember correctly not sure on an LSX engine. Go to autometers sight and see what they say.

Where else can I tap into the tach signal? I got another tach and it doesn't work either. I would think that it is just another bad tach, but my window switch for my nitrous is tapped into the same white wire behind the cluster and it doesn't read rpms either...HELP PLEASE!!
