Default Stereo Upgrade for '01 Silverado

I am what you would call, car audio retarded, so bear with me. I currently have a Pioneer (I think) single-DIN head unit from the previous owner. The display went out so I can't see anything, but it still works. I would like to replace it.

I hate the 1/2" of empty space around the head unit, I'd prefer a more factory look. Will a 1.5 DIN unit fit without modification? If so, what dash kit do I need to make this happen? If a 1.5 DIN will fit, what do you recommend? I don't need anything fancy, my only requirements are that it plays MP3 CD's, has an aux input built into the back of it so I can run the wires into my center console for a 3.5mm audio jack, and it would be sweet if it's dimmable via the factory dimmer ****. Doesn't need iPod specific connections, USB, XM. Bluetooth would be a perk if I can use that instead of the 3.5mm aux input. Touchscreen would also be awesome.

I think all of my speakers are Alpine units. There is full wiring for a sub/amp under the rear seats which I would like to utilize in the future.

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: What about this: http://mp3playerstore.com/stuff_you_.../IN-VR182.html

well 1.5 din is what the size of the dash is. so if you cn fins a 1.5 din to put in there then yes it should work fine (idk if they even make 1.5 dins)

and the link that you posted it is a double din to make it fit you will have to do some cutting.

The link says double din in the pics, but 1.5 din in the text below. It also says 3.5" tall which I think is 1.5 din territory. What little info I could find says that double din is 4+".

you could always do this
How To : Double Din in a 99-02 1.5 Din
or
A different approach to Double Din in a 99-02

as an option if you prefer it.

Thanks for the links, I've seen them already in my searches for 1.5 DIN, which I guess are pretty much non-existent now. I'm hoping to not have to do any mods to the dash, I'd rather go with single DIN before cutting. I did find this, http://maptechenterprises.com/storef...34cedb0d9c9132, which is the nicest single din kit I've seen.

Anyone have thoughts on the link in my original post?

It looks janky imo, I would either do double (looks way better, more options) or single and be done.

I guess janky would be a good word for it, but I think it looks GREAT! My ideal unit would be something that looks stock but has the added functionality of the aftermarket units, and with a nice screen. I hate the flashy chrome buttons, super bright *** LED's, stupid animations playing in the background, etc. I want something clean and classy!

I kinda thought my Pioneer 3200BT was just that...simple and classy.

Good luck on your search.
