Default Stereo Build.....Lets play hide the JL Audio 10w6v2......

It's been a long time since I posted anything. I left my job in the lumber supply industry and started a company with a buddy of mine. Haven't spent much time in front of a computer because of work so I haven't been able to post much. I did this build a few months ago and have finally got it pretty much tuned as is. Here is a little info on the build so far........

First off my goals for my audio system is to be pretty stealth and a balanced sound at elevated listening levels without distortion. Not looking to break any records but something for me to make my travels MUCH more enjoyable. I bought my amp and sub combo off of a friend for a ridiculously great deal. Eventually I will upgrade the other parts of the system to make up a great fairly stock looking sound system. So far the sub is the biggest install of my stereo system. I missed the opportunity to take more pictures of the project because of my excitement of actually getting this project finished took over. If you have any questions please let me know.

Truck in sig....I ended up with the full console from the factory. Because I wanted a system as stealth as possible I decided to install my JL Audio 10w6v2 in the console. I used my dremel and cutting wheel to cut all of the excess plastic from the console to fit my box. I went with a sealed box that is approximately .65 cubic foot to accommodate the subwoofer. Until I figure out exactly the direction I want to go with this box I just painted it flat black.

The reason for the step down at the (front) of the box is because I wanted to keep as much space as possible under the cup holders for storage.
After quite a bit of dremeling with a cutting wheel I was able to fit the box inside of the console.

It sits crooked in this picture because it was not installed in the truck and the height of the trim panels on either side are different.

..........and i'm out of pictures.

I will take some pictures and post of the installed look with seats. The overall console was raised about an inch to accommodate the box. The part that kept the console from fitting 100% stock height I wasn't willing to cut. ( it would have deleted the latch for the arm rest so I decided to keep that) I have also fitted the rear fascia for the console that holds the air vents and cup holders. Both which were deleted due to space or rattles. Again I will post some pictures shortly of how it fits and currently looks like.
As far as sound goes all I can say is that im impressed. The JL 10w6v2 is a pretty stout sub. At full volume (amp limited) it will shake the steering column on select tones. Check back for updated pictures and let me know what you think!

Ive been a jl fan for a long time. And a single jl 10w6v2 was ny choice right away but after about a month i hated it. Not because it easnt loud enough but because it didnt sound that great. It was tuned very well. It just sounded bad on punchy bass lime rock songs and low bass on some rap i hated it. And i ended up going with two re srx 12s under the back seat. Man way way better sounding. If that was the setup i was after i think id go with a single 12 even a 12 w6 would be fine or the res theyte my new favorite. I just think youd like the sound quality and db range you would get out of a little bit larger speaker. Other than that i really like the mounting location.

Thanks man! I am pushing the 10w6v2 with an old Alpine V12 MRV-F357. Its a 5 channel amp that I bought with the sub from a friend. The sub is being powered (under powered ) by the sub channel of the amp. It is only getting around 150w RMS and Peaks at around 300w. I have it mounted under the rear seat on the passenger side. I haven't put much work into the amp mounting because I have some other amps that I would like to go with. So until I get my final amps I won't spend much time on it but here is a pic.

As far as the 260k LSx......I love this thing!!! Runs great, sounds great, and moves pretty good considering mods.

Thanks Man! Actually I have more space now than I ever did. The box did take up 90% of the area under the arm rest.

But with all of the Bose equipment taken out I have a HUGE space under my cup holders now.

And it just so happens that when I deleted my A/C vents going to the rear fascia it left a big A/C vent that I decided to leave uncovered. So now the storage under the cup holders is air conditioned. I can keep food, beverages, candy bars, etc. cold during a road trip. I have plenty of room for a foot long sub, chips, and a few cans of soda all kept cold! The cavity actually gets cold enough to keep drinks in the cup holder cold.

So far it sounds good considering that im working with an amp that is seriously underpowering this sub. It gets loud enough on some deep parts in some songs that it shakes the stering wheel in my hand. I have thought about upgrading to a JL 10w7 if the w6 isn't enough for me. I just really want to keep it a one sub system. I really like the location , but it does limit me to a 10" sub unless I go with a full custom console.

I would like to see how you finished this off. I did the same thing with my center console with a 10W1v2 but since mine is a reg cab, I removed the end cap and had it glassed in where the sub is exposed out the back side.

Right now as it sits the cup holders an A/C vents are just empty holes. It's unfinished but have a few ideas that I will try out. Keep checking back and I'll post some pictures of any updates. I really want to finish this so I can start on some other interior projects.

Something simple that I think would finish it off nicely would be to get some grill cloth and make some form frames of the openings. Push the cloth in the openings from the backside creating a flush exterior with the grill cloth. However, it may be more challenging depending on how you cut out the openings and how thin the plastic is there.
