Default Remote Start on 1996 Suburban

Anyone installed one? Do you know if I need any specific relays or modules in place? I have a VIPER 5101 that was given to me off a vehicle that was traded in. Done plenty of stereos and whatnot, just never wired up a remote start. Any pointers would be great.

I should have specified. I don't have a factory security system, just keyless entry. Do I still need the module?

No factory antitheft until 1998.

You can trust me on that. The GM fullsize trucks didn't have any kind of factory antitheft until 1998 models, and that's when they got Passlock.

And this is one of the reasons I want the upgraded securdy haha.
So straight forward, no fancy relay wiring in and bypasses to program, etc?

Even 1998-up with Passlock aren't secure at all. It just takes forcing the tumbler (several ways to do it) and it will start and run. All the "security" is right there in the column and easy to defeat. All it's good for is causing problems for the legit owner once it starts going bad.

Beyond that, I'm no alarm installation expert so I can't provide specifics for putting one in your '96. Can say though that you definitely do not need to do anything special such as a bypass for any factory security.
