Default radar detector hard wire

i want to hard wire my radar detector to my truck, my friend had it done in his mustang and it was so much better. should i wire it to the map/compas wires or should i run it up the headliner and down the a pillar to some other wires. want it to come on with the truck, what do you recomend and what wires/ fuses should i look for?

I have a Passport 8500 with the hard-wired remote. I ran the wire down the passenger a-pillar, inside the dash to the remote next to the airbag switch, then across to the driver's side fuse box. I am at work right now but I will take a peek later and check which wire I tapped into. I really like having it hard-wired, I hate cigarette lighter plugs and avoid them whenever possible. The wire that I grabbed turns the detector on when the key is on run or on accessory.

I have the Valentine One and I hard wired the same as Thunder did. Make sure you fuse it and have it on a "keyed" hot connection as so it's only on when the accessories are on or the truck is running...which means going down the A-pillar.

i put a female plug in my over head console right by the windshield and a male plug on the power wire for my radar. I pulled the power from the SEO (special equipment option) fuse. It comes on with the accesories. I also have a to turn it on or off as I please. It looks really clean.

Here's where I tapped the power wire...it's on the driver's side fuse panel, brown wire. Hopefully you can discern that one from the 15 million other taps I have made in that box.

Wow you have tapped into a bunch of other ****. Which ones did you tap into for your power ground and Ill for your gauges. Since I know my headunit colors I jsut tapped into the power/ground/Ill behind the headunit and not tap into the fuse panel but I need to redo it and do it right.
