Default Need advise

Just bought a indash screen for my 04 single cab silverado.I have been told that i need a special $120 wiring harness, my truck doesnt have steering whell controls or on-star do I need this harness?I have also talked to a couple people that say i can use a regular $20 harness but i will not have the door chime that automatically turns my headlight off and chimes if my door is open or lights are on.What should i do ?All advise is appreciated.

I would think that you should be able to use the $20 dollar harness....

the 03+ use the "expensive" harness because on it is the door chime speaker. I'd still think you could use the cheap one, you just wont have a door chime.

i just did a pioneer avic-n3 in a 2004 blazer yesterday.....i used the regular $18 harness. at first the automatic headlights did not turn on u had to do it by hand but after we drove the truck for like a mile everything kicked back on....daytime lights came on and when it got dark the headlights turned on, on their own and the door still chimes.

he didn't have onstar or steering controls either.

it works perfectly fine in the silverado trucks with or without onstar/redundant steering wheel controls. I've had no effect on my headlights on my new truck at all. the door chime will not function with the cheap adapter though. make sure you tap into the acc wire under the steering column. you can do a fuse tap but it's much more of a pain in the *** to do so. If you take off the dash panel (pops off), then unscrew the upper panel on the column (7/16" hex heads i think) and then unscrew the lower column panel (same size heads), if you look in the wiring just next to the steering column there's a brown wire you can military splice to get a good acc that's not ghetto like a fuse tap. just run the wire up the back of the stereo mounting hole then and butt splice into the harness you have. do you have the fm antenna adapter? if you dont, you have to get an adapter to go from the gm antenna to the standard aftermarket size

IMO - don't do the expensive harness cuz you dont really need a door chime, 20 bux is better than 120
