Default Navigation mounting idea

I'm thinking of a future plan for a permanent nav screen mount...I was thinking of hiding it in the cd storage area of the center console, and modifying the door to swing back into the console and out of the way. My only concern is that it will be too low and my eyes will have to peer too far from the road to check the screen for upcoming turns and whatnot...any thoughts?

The door under the switches is the area I'm referring to:

That is a long way to be looking. By the time you focus and read it you will have traveled a long way. Plus the angle may not be enough for the screeen to show up in the daylight. Even in the dash I have to adjust the screen angle frmo time to time to make it clear. I also don't know of a screen small enough to fit in that cubby hole.

i agree thats a long way to look away from the road to. i would think a navigation unit would serve it purpose better(easy to see) if it it were either beside the a-pillar on the top of the dash or above the center a/c vent on the top of the dash

Yea, that's pretty much what I was thinkin, just wanted to get some more opinions. The Garmin Nuvi 660 would fit there nicely, and I could make it hidden, but if it's not functional and actually dangerous than it's not worth it. I'd hate to be looking for the next turn just to end up in the trunk of the car in front of me. Thanks for the input guys

This might sound nutty, but what about moving the switches down behind the door, then modifying where the switches were to accept the HVAC controls, and then mounting the GPS in the area once occupied by the HVAC controls?

I actually thought of that, but I really like the way the factory radio and hvac controls look together (for whatever reason). That's still an option I'm considering though...the HVAC spot would be perfect for a snall nav screen (as long as nobody breaks in and steals it lol)
