Default Instrument Cluster Fix-Up

Well, I needed to replace some stepper motors in my dash so I thought I'd do that while my truck was down waiting for the transmission. I bought the trim cover, face plate and needles for $157 and 7 stepper motors for $18 off of amazon.

My truck didn't have a trans temp gauge but I bought the cluster kit that has the trans temp and soldered in a stepper motor, it looks like this before you melt the solder off to add it

Does your stepper motor work for the trans temp? Ive tried it before and it didnt work for me but i've heard of it working on some trucks.

I haven't put it in yet. I guess I will see what happens. I know stepper motors have to have a driver to operate them, I wonder if some of the circuit boards don't have them.

Check out this thread. It's for a 99-02 but I'd be willing to be there's similar hardware required to drive the trans temp gauge in the 03+ clusters as well.
